Xaro Lodge is a must-visit if you are a birding enthusiast. Species that are spotted regularly include Pel’s fishing owl, skimmers, carmine bee-eaters, egrets, night herons, kingfishers, pygmy geese and fish eagles. An Island Walk will bring you into close contact with the unique fauna and flora of this area.

A visit to the renown Tsodilo Hills is a must for those who are interested in history and culture.

Meals at Xaro Lodge will satisfy every palate. Xaro pride themselves in being as self-sustainable as possible. They use the best ingredients to create fresh, home style meals that are served under the natural canopy of trees. A bar with a good selection of wine is available.

The Location

Xaro Lodge lies in north western Botswana on an island near Shakawe. It is not far from the Namibian border. You can only reach this luxury private lodge by boat transfer. This transfer will be pre-arranged for you when you make your booking.

Accommodation

There are 11 Meru tents at Xaro Lodge. Each luxury tent is pitched beneath huge shady trees on wooden decks overlooking the Okavango River. There is one very private, luxury Honeymoon Suite and one Family unit. The other units are twin bedded and all units have private en-suite bathrooms and balconies. A full solar system provides electricity and is part of the sustainability initiative of Xaro Lodge.

Activities

Birding and photography are two of the favorite activities of visitors to Xaro Lodge.

Mostly water-based,these activities will take you to the unique riverine forests and floodplains where over 300 species of birds can be seen.

Land based activities include a guided bush walk and a Tsodilo Hills day trip. A cultural visit to a local village can also be organized.
